Getting Here

Bus

Many buses stop directly opposite or outside the SHSC Venue main entrance.

Edinburgh’s local company, Lothian Buses, provide easy access vehicles equipped with:

  • Doors that lower to kerb height to give step free access where possible
  • Retractable boarding ramp for wheelchair access
  • Flat areas on the lower deck with no internal steps
  • High visibility handrails
  • A dedicated wheelchair space
  • Drivers who are specially trained to assist with customer requirements

Taxi

SHSC Venue has a taxi drop off point directly outside the main entrance, where there is a dropped kerb and level pathway into the building. Taxis can be booked at the venue reception and our preferred supplier is Central Taxis, who provide wheelchair accessible vehicles supplied with a wheelchair ramp, seatbelts and additional safety anchors. All drivers have completed training in Wheelchair Access and Disability Awareness.

Train
Our nearest train station is Haymarket, which is an accessible building, and taxis may be found directly in front of the main entrance.

Tram
Edinburgh Trams travel from Edinburgh airport and stop directly outside Haymarket Station.

Car

Free parking is available and SHSC Venue has two dedicated wheelchair accessible parking bays at the front of the building that may be booked in advance by our delegates (please ensure your badge is clearly displayed in the car).

If delegates require any assistance upon arrival at the venue, please call 0131 275 7755 and we will be happy to assist.

The Venue

There is always a member of our team ready to great all delegates upon arrival. When possible we do ask that individuals with accessibility requirements to contact the centre prior to arrival in order to make your welcome as comfortable as we can.

The main entrance to SHSC Venue has an automated sliding door, which works on motion sensors and will open automatically when a delegate approaches.

All areas of the SHSC Venue are accessible to wheelchair users, although it should be noted that the Fettes suite has a separate entrance for those delegates with reduced mobility as the room is located on our lower ground floor and access from reception is by a staircase only. Wheelchair access to the room is possible with prior arrangement via the separate entrance - please contact a member of our team on 0131 275 7755 or NSS.conference@nhs.net if you have any questions about this room.

The SHSC Venue has wheelchair accessible toilets on all floors, equipped with grab rails, lowered sinks and mirrors and emergency pull cords.

Tactile signage is fitted on all of the doors in the building.

Assistance Dogs are welcome at the SHSC Venue.

An induction loop system is available in the Fettes and Cramond rooms as well as at reception. A personal loop system is available for all other rooms.

If you have any special dietary requirements, please let us know in advance and we’ll make sure the food we provide meets your requirements. We are able to cater for the majority of special dietary requirements.
